Choosing the right smoothing blade

The ideal smoothing blade depends on the filler, application method and finish you want to achieve. Flexible blades are particularly effective for smoothing ready-mixed filler and producing a fine finish over large surfaces, while stiffer blades provide greater control where more pressure or material movement is required.

Blade width also matters. Smaller blades provide greater control around details and restricted areas, while wider smoothing blades make it possible to finish large walls and ceilings efficiently with fewer passes.

For large-scale skim coating, roller and airless application can be combined with a wide smoothing blade and extension pole to create an efficient system that reduces unnecessary bending, reaching and manual application.
